Dominos

This is probably my favorite animation. I got the idea playing with 3Ds Max’s dynamics engine. Basically, I modeled the dominos and then assigned physical properties like elasticity, mass and friction to them. Then I set them up just like you would in real life and let Max compute the animation. It really took a lot of horse power. I ended up having to compute each level on its own and manually animate the dominos fall between them. I wanted to get the two words at the end to fall over at the exact same time, but I was too close to the deadline for the project so I had to live with it the way it is.

The sound effects were a challenge. I couldn’t find many clips that sounded like dominos hitting one another. I had to use three clips over and over. With the awesome 80’s sound track you don’t notice it though!
